The Rock Bar - Jimbaran, Bali

This has to be my favourite bar in the world! Located at the Ayana resort in Jimbaran, SW Bali, this bar is basically perched on a big rock overlooking the clear waters of the Balinese coastline below.

While guests have priority, the general public can also go to the Rock Bar but get there early around 5pm before the crowds come for the stunning sunset views. There is this nifty little travelator lift that takes you down to the bar itself where there is plenty of seating. The cocktails are first class and there is a DJ playing chilled beats until the sun goes down when the music vibe goes more upbeat. It's a must go-do!

The Moon Bar - Bangkok, Thailand

This is one of my favourite sky bars. The drinks aren't cheap but you pay for the location and the 360 degree views. Located on the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree Hotel on Sathorn Road, this bar takes up the whole floor and it's been designed with nothing above you, so you really do feel like you are on top of the building or in the clouds! I found it was generally more tourists and ex-pats here than locals due to the prices but nevertheless, the ambience is perfect.

If you are peckish, there is an aptly named restaurant called' Vertigo' which is on the same floor. I didn't eat but the food looked great.

Shades - Dubai Marina, UAE

I've been to Shades each time I've been to Dubai. Whilst Dubai has countless numbers of great bars, for me it's special as this was the first bar I went to here and I love the backdrop of the infinity pool and the Marina at night. It's a great place to people watch from above as you look down on to the Marina area and walkway below.

Shades is located at the Address Hotel in the Marina area of Dubai. There is a resident DJ on weekends and chilled music is played most other days in the week which adds to the ambience when sipping a refreshing cocktail in the Dubai heat. I've been in Feb, March and April, so perfect times of the year to relax here before the heat really ramps up in the Summer months. There is also a restaurant here that overlooks the pool area.

Evans & Peel Detective Agency, London

This is a quirky 'secret' bar that I didn't know existed until one of my friends took me. Based in Earls Court in zone 1, you wouldn't even know this place was there! A door onto the side street is the only clue. You ring the bell and this is when the excitement starts. You are led downstairs into a small detectives office, complete with bookcase and old looking typewriter. You submit a 'case' to the detective (basically a made up story of murder or crime) and he then leads you into the bar area which is behind a fake bookcase. It's all very cool if you've never done a a secret bar before.

Once inside, the bar is done out in a 1920's style complete with old candles, books, manuscripts and anything that looks like it's from a Sherlock Holmes era. The tables are quirky with old cinema/theatre style seats with the highlight being the unusual cocktail menu. There is also a small food menu too. A great night out if you fancy something different with a theatrical twist.

360 Bar - Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Dubai, UAE

Another of my favourite bars in Dubai, this time in the Jumeirah Beach area. At the end of the Jumeirah Beach hotel walkway, it boasts 360 panoramic views with the Burj Al Arab towering over you on the Arabian Gulf.

This place is again great for just an early evening cocktail to watch the sunset or as a night out where they regularly have local and international DJ's playing on the sun deck. You can walk the short ten minutes round the marina area to the bar or you can wait for the buggy's than frequently go back and forth. They are strict with ID, even if you do look over 21, so make sure you have this on you!
