Train journey: Kandy to Nuwara Eliya - Sri Lanka

This was one of my favourite journeys ever! The four hour train journey from Kandy in the centre of Sri Lanka to the hill station town of Nuwara Eliya was wonderful. I sat in the second class carriage that had the windows up so you could clearly see the stunning landscape and scenery, tea plantations, valleys, waterfalls and towns as we passed them.

The second class was in my opinion the best class due to having open windows and reserved seating. Third class was rammed full of people in the aisles and first class had windows that were not clear enough to see out of, kind of slightly frosted in parts. The natural air con in second class was a winner!

You can see more of this journey towards the end of my Sri Lanka vlog here.

Air Boat: Everglades - Florida, USA

These Air Boats are so fast not to mention noisy! They are basically flat-bottomed vessels that are propelled in a forward direction by an large aircraft-type propeller.

It's great fun as you skim along the grasslands of this National Park, twisting in and out of the mangrove tunnels and reaching speeds of over 100pmh! We stopped at quite a few places when the driver (who sits above you) saw some crocs so we could see them and other animals that live in the swamp. It's actually quite eerie as they can be quite hard to spot and as you are sat quite low down in the boat at water level, you are pretty close to them, especially the one's in the water when you just see their eyes!

You can see how fast these boats are in my short video clip here.

Manly Ferry - Sydney, Australia

The Manly ferry trip has to be one of my favourite boat rides in the world. The short trip of about 30 minutes offers amazing views of the harbour, ocean and the iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge as well as the Sydney skyline.

You can catch the ferry from Darling Harbour or Circular key to Manly and the Northern beaches ares and it offers a great different perspective to this city.

Ngong Ping Cable Car - Hong Kong

As far as cable cars go, this one is pretty long at 5.7km and offers spectacular views! It starts from Tung Chung, crossing Tung Chung Bay to reach the angle station on Airport Island and turning about 60 degrees in the air towards North Lantau. The panoramic view of Hong Kong's Chep Lak Kop international airport is incredible, you can see the whole airport on this island!

The journey takes 25-minutes with views of the vast South China Sea, the rolling grassland slopes of North Lantau Island and the Tian Tan Buddha. You can choose a standard cabin like I did or the 'crystal cabin' which is the same except it has a glass bottom so you literally get a birds eye view of everything below you.

Because you are travelling quite high up and the time of year I went (May), the day I went it was foggy in parts. Whilst this didn't take away all the views on the way up, it was quite eerie on the second leg as you couldn't only see about 3-4 ft in front of you. It was like going in to the abyss!! Thankfully on the way down, we had clear skies.

Duck Tours - London, UK

If you fancy something a bit different and fun, then London's Duck Tours offer a great amphibious adventure on wheels!

These vehicles were originally all used in the Second World War and have been rebuilt and modified so they can be used on road and river whilst meeting all the latest safety regs. There are a variety of tours starting at Waterloo by the London Eye, taking you all across London past the famous sites, learning interesting facts and being entertained by the humorous commentary on the way, which I have to say was quite funny, particularly if you get the British sense of humour!

Of course each tour ends with a big splashdown in to the River Thames! They gather some speed as they go in and out so as not to get stuck I presume in the mudbanks! We then floated down the Thames up to the Houses of Parliament and back again.

A really fun few hours on and off road!
