A short flight from London and we were in the capital of Austria; Vienna, our chosen stop in the middle of Winter pre-Christmas for the famous markets.

Vienna is an easy city to spend a few days in walking around and clocking up those steps. Everything in walkable in the centre and old town.

The old part of the city houses the main attractions such as the imperial Hofburg and historical Habsburg complex which is all party pedestrianised. They contain the imperial apartments, treasury to view the crown jewels and various museums including the famous Mozart monument.

Albertina palace and art museum houses the staterooms and various top exhibitions. The Stephensdom Cathedral dominates the skyline and is free to go part way inside but is ticketed if you want access to the full towers of the North and South.

Michaelerplatz square is surorunded by hisorical buildings and and is great to grab a coffee and people watch. This is where one of the main Christmas markets were being held, one of many! My favourite of the Christmas markets was the one in the Ring Area build around the giant Ringstraben boulevard (main pic). Another draw was the impressive Schonbrunn Area housing the summer palace of the Hasburgs.

Overall, a great short trip and particulalry good to do in Winter if the weather kind to you! We were lucky and just wrapped up warm, it was cold!
